Wine growing area
The vine growing area Vinju Mare – Orevita is part of the Dealurile Munteniei and Olteniei vine region and it is located in the Mehedinti county between the 44 and 45 parallels.
The vine growing echo-system is characterized by a mild continental climate with Mediterranean influences. Here, the grapevine is grown on hills with very favorable exposure at altitudes between 280m and 325m.
The woody brown-red, clay- ferruginous or limestone soils are famous for the high quality wines produced of Tamaioasa Romaneasca, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot grapes.
This echo-system provides the highest heliothermal resources of all the sub-Carpathians vineyards which, together with the balanced rainfalls creates the best conditions for over maturation of the grapes.
The factor ”soil-climate-variety-harvest time-vine growing and oenological technologies” in this region near the Danube and the forests makes the wines different and distinguishes the area Vinju Mare – Orevita as one of the areas that produces the highest quality wines.
